Area farm tractors became part of the message at Grace United Church in Tavistock during a recent Sunday service celebrating the arrival of spring and the start of planting season.

Rev. Marilyn Arthur, drawing on her rural background, led both the children’s story and the message to the congregation, focusing on the themes of growth, renewal and appreciation for the natural world

Images of cardinals in flight, captured by congregation member Jim Hollinger and displayed on the church’s screens, helped set the tone, while children shared seeds of hope alongside symbols of soil and water. Together, the elements underscored a message about recognizing and valuing the gifts of nature during the spring season.

Music also played a central role in the service. Jillian Chesney performed a solo accompanied by guitar, while the church choir, led by director Marilyne Nystrom, contributed throughout. Nystrom, known for her flute performances, added to the morning’s musical offerings.

Outside, tractors parked in the church lot – representing John Deere, Ford and New Holland – served as a visual reminder of the farming community’s connection to the season and the themes explored inside.
