What a first weekend for your Tillsonburg Thunder.
The Thunder season starts with all of the October games on the road. The Thunder is pretty much a new, young, and fast team.
First up was the Seaforth Centanaires, last year's regular season champions. This is no easy task for a new team to start on the road against such a seasoned opponent. Seaforth opened the scoring at 16:53 of the second period after a scoreless first period. The Thunder did not wait long to even it up at 14:52, with new Thunder player Robert MacLean scoring from Roberts and Tye Johnson. MacLean scored again short handed from the aggresive forecheck of Danny Attridge. Roberts added an insurance goal at 8:01 of the third Seaforth came back at 6:13 to make it 3-2. The last 1:09 of the game was extremely tense as the Thunder were two men down and with the Seaforth tender pulled, created a 6 on 3 situation. Incredible defensive play by the penalty killers and outstanding goal tending by Zack Johnston held them off for the Thunder win.
Final shot totals were Seaforth 32, Tillsonburg 27.
Questions are coming in from fans about the live streaming of the game. Unfortunately, not all arenas have internet. Such is the case in Seaforth. We could not even get a signal to put out the period scores via social media. We will try to at least share scores as they occur.
The next Thunder game is against the Dunnville Aeros on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. in Dunnville. I believe they have Internet access so hopefully we can stream it. To ensure viewing the game, make the trip to Dunnville. A significant number of Thunder fans make it to Seaforth and were they ever loud.
