Members of the Shakespeare Optimist Club recently welcomed Michelle Cutts, development and community outreach manager with Shelterlink Youth Services in Stratford, as a guest speaker.
Cutts spoke about the challenges facing youth experiencing homelessness or those at risk of homelessness and explained how Shelterlink helps young people between the ages of 16 and 24 find stability and support.
Located on the third floor of the former nurses' residence at 130 Young St. beside Stratford General Hospital, Shelterlink has been serving youth in the Stratford area since 1991.
During her presentation, Cutts shared several statistics highlighting the organization's impact in 2025. Shelterlink provided 2,095 safe bed nights, supported 203 participants through 56 group programs and responded to 357 shelter calls throughout the year.
The organization offers a variety of free support services, including a youth treatment program, peer-support services and virtual youth counselling groups. Shelterlink also works alongside the Ontario Disability Support Program to help youth access additional resources and support.
Youth seeking assistance can call 1-877-330-3213 or text 211 for help. Cutts can also be reached through the Shelterlink office at 519-272-2294 ext. 106.
Following the presentation, Shakespeare Optimist Club members voted to donate $400 to Shelterlink and also committed to providing food donations for youth currently being supported through the Stratford-based organization.
