A popular Father’s Day tradition is set to return as the Petersburg Optimist Club hosts its annual Father’s Day Breakfast and Car Show on Sunday, June 21.
Held at Petersburg Community Park, 1330 Notre Dame Dr., the event runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon and brings together families, volunteers and car enthusiasts for a morning of food, fun and fellowship. Guests can enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast featuring pancakes, scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, home fries, fruit cups, juice and coffee. Admission is $17 for adults and $10 for children under 10.
The event has grown into a major community gathering, typically serving breakfast to around 1,000 people.
The Waterloo County Shifters Car Club, based in Petersburg, showcases between 200 and 300 classic, vintage and exotic vehicles at the event.
The event’s success is built on community spirit and dedicated volunteers.
“The Optimist Club of Petersburg is a small club, but we have a great group of volunteers who make it happen,” said club president Warren Bechthold, crediting the strong community spirit behind the event’s continued success.
That spirit is also reflected in the many volunteers outside the Optimist Club who help keep the morning running smoothly. Local high school students volunteer to earn community service hours and give back to their community.
Members of Scouts Canada from the Waterloo Region also return each year to help out. The Optimist Club, which supports local youth programs such as Scouts, says the partnership is a meaningful way for Scouts to give back.
The Optimist Club of Petersburg is always welcoming new members and volunteers interested in supporting youth and community initiatives. For more information or to get involved, call 519-465-1157.
