Paris musician Neil w Young earns international award for music video

Paris songwriter, recording artist and author Neil w Young has earned another international honour for his music video What In The World Is The World Coming To.
Young received an Award of Recognition from the Accolade Global Film Competition, based in La Jolla, Calif., for the video, which reflects on current global events and concerns surrounding democracy, misinformation and social instability.
The video was recognized in the Dramatic Impact category and also received recognition in the Contemporary Issues/Awareness Raising and Music Video categories.
The project is a collaboration between Young, who wrote the lyrics and served as vocalist, video director and executive producer; German composer Michael Gogol; and Hamilton-based video producer Jody Matheson of HPTH International.
Gogol composed the electro-pop music, while Matheson produced the visual component of the project.
“On behalf of Michael and Jody, who share the award with me, I am honoured to receive this Award of Recognition for our video, What In The World Is The World Coming To,” Young said.
The latest recognition adds to several previous honours for the project.
The video received an Award of Recognition at the IndieFEST Film Awards in La Jolla in 2024 and was named Best Music Video at the Rome International Short Festival's summer 2023 competition. Young also received an International Academy of International Artists Golden Kayak Award for Best World Song in 2020.
“I am honoured to add the Accolade award to the growing resumé for our video,” Young said.
The Accolade Global Film Competition recognizes work in film, television, videography and new media from around the world. Entries are evaluated by professionals in the film and television industry, with awards recognizing achievement in storytelling, craft and creativity.
“The Accolade is not an easy award to win at any level,” competition chair Rick Prickett said in a statement. “Entries are received from around the world from powerhouse companies to remarkable new talent.”
Prickett said the competition aims to help recipients gain recognition for their work.
Past Accolade recipients have included filmmaker Ron Howard and Malcolm Clarke's Oscar-winning documentary The Lady in Number Six: Music Saved My Life.
Young, who lives in Paris, uses a lowercase “w” for his middle initial as part of his professional name.
