With a stolen vehicle recovery incident, impaired and dangerous driving charges laid and “extensive traffic enforcement,” the Thanksgiving long-weekend marked another busy one for Northumberland OPP.

Here’s your latest OPP rundown.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED:

On Oct. 6, 2026, Northumberland OPP said police received a report of a vehicle stolen from a residence on Percy Street in the Township of Cramahe. As part of the investigation, officers reported they attended a local auto dismantling facility where the stolen vehicle was recovered later that day.

On Oct. 9, police said they arrested an individual in connection with the alleged incident.

As a result of the probe, police said a 40-year-old man with no fixed address was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, personation with intent – identity fraud, and mischief.

The accused is due in Cobourg court in December to answer to the charges, reported OPP.

CRASH LEADS TO IMPAIRED, DANGEROUS DRIVING CHARGES:

On Oct. 11, at about 2:35 p.m., officers said they responded to a two-vehicle crash at the Archer Road and County Road 2 area in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.

No injuries were reported.

After an interaction with one of the drivers, officers said they initiated an impaired operation investigation, resulting in an arrest. Further testing allegedly indicated a blood alcohol concentration of more than three times the legal limit, said police.

As a result of the investigation, police said a 27-year-old Cramahe man was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and dangerous operation.

The accused is slated to appear in Cobourg court in November.

‘STATIONARY VEHICLE’ REPORT LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES:

On Oct. 12, shortly after 6 a.m., officers said they responded to a report of “a stationary vehicle” in a live lane on Hwy. 401 westbound in the Municipality of Port Hope.

After speaking with the driver, again, officers said an impaired driving investigation was initiated.

As a result, a 35-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)

The accused is due to appear in Cobourg court in November.

Police stated in both of the impaired driving incidents, officers also issued 90-day licence suspensions and vehicles were impounded for a week.

None of the charges in the above unrelated incidents have been proven in court.

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT:

Throughout the long-weekend, Northumberland OPP officers said they also laid about 200 traffic-related charges, including 110 speeding and six stunt driving charges for excessive speed.

For the motorists charged with stunt driving – excessive speed – a 30-day licence suspension and 14-day impound was also imposed, noted OPP.

Police continue to urge drivers to slow down, stressing safe driving habits save lives.
