A new ice resurfacer will be purchased by the Town of Goderich, with help from a $50,000 donation from the Kinsmen Club of Goderich.
In recognition of this contribution, the Kinsmen Club’s logo would be installed as a wrap on the Olympia ice resurfacer.
“We have sponsored the ice resurfacing machines in Goderich for many years,” stated Earl Pennington, Kinsmen Club of Goderich.
“Every time the town has bought a new machine, we have donated a large portion of the cost in exchange for getting our name and logo on the machine.”
In a letter to the Town, Doug MacDonald, President of the Kinsmen Club of Goderich indicated the club would make the $50,000 contribution with the understanding the decaling and logo rights on the new unit would be exclusive to the Kinsmen.
In the agreement, the Town would be responsible for the cost and installation of the decal.
“Everyone who goes to the Maitland Rec Centre sees our name going around the ice surface, to let them know we are a proud part of this great community,” added Pennington.
Acceptance of this contribution reduces the Town’s net capital cost to $80,245 plus HST.
At the October 6 council meeting, staff proceeded with Olympia’s submission at a cost of $130,245 plus HST.
“We are often in a position at this table where we are thanking the service clubs in our community for everything they do,” remarked Deputy Mayor Leah Noel.
“They continue to step up, and they continue to support initiatives and community events, and we are all the better for it.”
