Gateway hosts webinar on narratives of rural healthcare recruitment and retention

By: Lily Rideout
Rural communities are facing an ongoing challenge of recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals.
The ongoing shortage of healthcare professionals can be explored by understanding the journeys people have to settle in a rural community to set up their practices.
Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is delighted to announce an upcoming webinar series event on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 12 – 1 p.m. via ZOOM.
The topic is “Narratives of Rural Health Recruitment & Retention.” This session will focus on themes emerging from the stories of two early career healthcare professionals who have chosen to provide their services in rural regions.
Alli Meyer, PharmD, became owner of the Goderich Town Square IDA Pharmacy and is really excited to continue providing high level personalized care to our rural community. She grew up in Bruce Country and returned to her roots after graduating with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Waterloo's School of Pharmacy in 2023.
Matt McArthur, MD, was born and raised in Walkerton, Ontario and completed training in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at McMaster University.
He currently practices Emergency Medicine primarily in Guelph and Kitchener and works occasional ER shifts in Walkerton where he grew up and where his parents practice comprehensive rural medicine.
Attend this event to learn what drives interests in practicing in rural communities, and the role of mentorship in inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Anyone in the community is welcome to attend.
