It’s election day in Ontario and with just hours left to vote, west Northumberland communities are encouraging residents to cast their ballots before the polls close at 8 p.m.

In the Municipality of Port Hope, 31.8 per cent of eligible electors had already voted as of Monday morning (Oct. 26), according to a press release.

The municipality is asking residents to encourage their friends, family members, neighbours and colleagues to vote.

Voter assistance centres in Port Hope are open until 8 p.m.

Those who need assistance voting can go to town hall, which is located at 56 Queen St., or visit the Port Hope Community Hub, which is located at 5325 Cty. Rd. 10.

If residents did not get a voter information letter or need to be added to the voters’ list, they’re asked to stop by one of the assistance centres. They can also cast their electronic vote in-person at one of the two sites.

The Town of Cobourg is also reminding all eligible electors to cast their ballots.

Brent Larmer, Cobourg’s municipal clerk and 2026 elections returning officer, announced Monday morning Cobourg has seen 40 per cent of eligible electors cast their votes since the voting period opened Oct. 16.

“Your local government delivers many of the services that most effect your everyday life,” noted the town, in a release Monday. “The Town of Cobourg wants to ensure every eligible elector can cast their ballot and have their say.”

Residents who did not get a voter information letter must stop by one of the voter help centres in town to receive their letter, which contains their PIN and instructions about how to vote. Residents need to bring photo identification and proof of address.

“Electors are encouraged to vote early and allow enough time to register and cast their ballot.”

Cobourg’s clerks’ team is managing the voter help centres.

All voter help centres are open until 8 p.m. Centres are located in the old Bailey courtroom in Victoria Hall at 55 King St. W., at the Cobourg Public Library at 200 Ontario St., and at the Cobourg Community Centre, which is located at 750 D’Arcy St.

The town noted all voter help centre locations are accessible and have free parking, with three free hours of parking downtown.

Cobourg Transit is offering free rides to and from the town’s voter help centres for residents voting in-person. To learn more about how to use Cobourg Transit, visit www.Cobourg.ca/transit or call the booking line at 905-373-0582.

Once numbers have been tallied and verified in Cobourg, the municipal clerk and 2026 election returning officer will post the results to a projection screen in the concert hall at Victoria Hall at 8:30 p.m. or later. All Cobourg residents are invited to attend and view the unofficial results as they are released.

In Port Hope, results will also be announced in-person at the Capitol Theatre. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Area municipalities will also post results online.

Some hills look harmless until the car hits the wrong angle. eggy car is a simple game to understand, but landing smoothly is what makes a good run.
