A longtime supporter of the Tavistock Men's Club was all smiles recently after learning he was the winner of the organization's annual 50/50 draw.

Irvin Zehr took home half of the proceeds from the draw, which is held each year in conjunction with the club's popular fish fry fundraiser.

Men's Club member Bob Routly recently visited Zehr to present him with his winnings.

Well known throughout the Tavistock area, Zehr has spent many years volunteering with the Men's Club and supporting numerous community initiatives. He is also recognized as a longtime automotive mechanic, business owner and antique-car enthusiast.

For many years, Zehr operated a successful automotive business in Tavistock, helping keep local residents on the road whenever they needed assistance. His son, Larry, continues the family tradition through Zehr Automotive on Woodstock Street South.

The annual 50/50 draw is one of several fundraising initiatives organized by the Tavistock Men's Club throughout the year.

Funds raised through club activities help support local organizations and programs, including area 4-H clubs, the Tavistock Figure Skating Club and a variety of other community projects.

Club members expressed their appreciation to the many residents who continue to support their fundraising efforts through annual events such as the fish fry, sauerkraut suppers and year-round sauerkraut sales.

The continued support of the community helps the organization carry on its tradition of giving back to local groups and causes.
