‘Extremely unfortunate’ destruction of traffic crossing signs in Norwich continues

A Norwich councillor has expressed his frustration with the apparent theft and damage of traffic calming signs in the Holbrook area of the township.

Shawn Gear brought up the issue at the May 12 township council meeting.

“They (staff) are now on the third round of replacing these signs, and it’s extremely unfortunate,” Gear said.

The incidents have repeatedly happened around the bend on Highway 59, he said. Replacing each sign costs $6,000, money that comes out of the pockets of taxpayers.

Gear, who’s been a strong advocate of road safety measures, said there’s been limited feedback from citizens on who the culprits are.

“I’m extremely disappointed that this type of situation is happening,” he said.
