Youth section to be added to town app

The Tillsonburg app will now have a youth section added thanks to a request from the town’s youth’s advisory council.

Isabella Rasokas and Sri Darshini Ganesh of the youth advisory council spoke to council at the July 13 meeting, discussing opportunities for youth in the town. A survey of local youth by former members of the youth advisory council identified opportunities wanted by younger people. More recent work found many of the opportunities already exist.

“The challenge is that many youths simply don’t know about them,” Rasokas said at the meeting.

Darshini Ganesh said the group concluded a separate tab on the town’s app could highlight activities, local clubs and volunteer opportunities.

“We believe that this page would make it easier for young people to find information, increase awareness of opportunities available in summer, and encourage more youth involvement in our community,” she said.

After Councillor Chris Parker, Deputy Mayor Dave Beres and Mayor Deb Gilvesy complimented the duo for the work the committee accomplished and a well-done presentation, council endorsed a motion directing staff to add and maintain a youth section to the app.
