Lou and Janet Divita had an extra reason to celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary after winning the Wilmot Heritage Antique Fire Brigade's monthly 50/50 draw.

The Baden couple took home $315 and accepted their cheque from brigade president Peter Gingerich.

The Divitas said they have supported the monthly draw for some time and were delighted to finally see their ticket selected.

They also encouraged others to support the fundraiser, noting the proceeds help the brigade preserve its collection of antique fire trucks and historic firefighting equipment.

The monthly 50/50 draw is one of several fundraising initiatives the Wilmot Heritage Antique Fire Brigade relies on to support its ongoing restoration and preservation efforts.

Another successful fundraiser is the brigade's monthly bottle and can drive, held on the last Saturday of each month at the brigade's depot in Baden.

Volunteers collect empty alcohol containers, pop cans and glass bottles, sorting the materials before they are recycled. Pop cans are sold by weight, while alcohol containers are counted and returned through the province's deposit program.

Residents are also welcome to drop off eligible containers throughout the month. The brigade stores the donations until its next scheduled recycling trip.

Members thank the community for its continued support, noting the fundraiser not only helps preserve local firefighting history but also encourages recycling throughout the community.
