Dallas Smith playing in Tillsonburg May 28

Canadian country singer Dallas Smith will be making a stop in Tillsonburg as part of his current tour.

He will be playing in the Tillsonburg Community Centre arena on May 28.

The three-time Canadian Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year winner has 21 gold-certified singles, nine platinum singles and four albums that have reached the gold level in sales. His global streaming count is more than 640 million, and he played at the Grand Ole Opry last summer.

The May 28 concert will be the first concert by a major artist in the Tillsonburg Community Centre in two decades. In all likelihood, the last concert in the facility was in 2006 when Stompin’ Tom Connors belted out the lyrics to the town’s song, amongst other hits.

New County 107.3 and Jones Entertainment Group will be jointly presenting the show. Tickets went on sale to the general public last Friday.

“We have a partnership with the Jones Entertainment Group on this,” said Alan Duthie, New Country 107.3 general manager. “They are leading the way and we are working aside them.”

The arena will hold 1,700 people.

Duthie was excited with the announcement of the show, and said more music announcements will be coming. Across My Broadcasting Corporation – the station’s parent company – they have presented Glass Tiger, the Northern Pikes and classic rock tribute bands in the past.

“We like to have interactions in the community that are different, but connect the band to the community,” Duthie said. “If we can find an artist to bring to town and it makes sense for the brand, let’s do it.”
