Cobourg downtown, waterfront road closures slated for Oct. 24

By West Northumberland Independent staff
Cobourg residents and visitors can expect road closures on Saturday (Oct. 24) in both the downtown and waterfront areas.
The Town of Cobourg is asking residents and visitors to take note on the map of the upcoming road, pedestrian and parking lot closures.
The closures are required to accommodate the second weekend of Cobourg marina’s boat lift-out and hauling operations, as well as Downtown Cobourg’s DBIA-hosted trick-or-treat event.
For the work at the marina, the following road, pedestrian and parking lot closures will be in effect:
The Esplanade, including the east and west parking lots will be closed until Sunday, October 25 at 5 p.m.
Hibernia Street, south of Third Street – not a full closure; but delays are expected.
Third Street, between Hibernia Street and the Esplanade – not a full closure but again, delays are expected.
Division Street, south of the Esplanade.
Pedestrian access will also be restricted in areas where heavy equipment is being operated, the town noted.
“Every effort will be made to reopen roads and walkways when it is safe to do so,” noted town staff.
Meanwhile, the trick-or-treat event on Saturday gives kids a chance to go trick-or-treating at local downtown businesses.
The following road closures will be in effect on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.: Second Street will be closed from King Street West to Albert Street, Third Street closed from Albert Street to King Street West, and King Street West closed from Spring Street to Division Street.

Local businesses will remain open.
The town is asking drivers to use alternate routes and follow posted signage while closures are in place.
Municipal parking is currently in the low-season period, with the first three hours of parking free, noted the towns. After three hours, the regular parking rate applies.
