Candidates’ night planned for Sept. 29

Tillsonburg residents will have an opportunity to hear what candidates for mayor and councillor have to say at an event planned for Sept. 29.

Hosted by the Tillsonburg District Chamber of Commerce and Tillsonburg Post, the evening will start at 6 p.m. in the Lions Auditorium at the Tillsonburg Community Centre.

“This forum uses a conversational, question-and-answer format that goes beyond short campaign statements. It is not traditional political debate,” said chamber Executive Director Rosio Salinas.

Candidates will explain their priorities, perspectives, and approach to municipal leadership, giving residents a better understanding of how they plan to address local issues, with each given a set time limit. They will then answer questions submitted by chamber members and the general public, again with a time limit. Candidates will then have two minutes to deliver closing remarks.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, a no-cost function supporting local civic engagement.

“Meet the Candidates meetings are an important part of a healthy municipal election,” said Tillsonburg Post Publisher Stewart Grant. “They give voters an opportunity to hear directly from the people asking for their support, understand their priorities, and make informed decisions about the future of their community”

Those wishing to submit questions for the debate can visit the website tillsonburgchamber.ca to submit questions they would like to be asked during the forum. All questions will be reviewed, but due to time constraints, not all questions will be asked.
