Conservative Incumbent Dan Muys was re-elected during last week’s Federal Election, solidifying his position of MP for Flamborough-Glanbrook-Brant North. It’s his second term in office, but in some ways it’s his first, at least his first as MP of Brant North. He will act as a liaison to parliament on behalf of constituents in Paris, St. George and Glen Morris. “My style as MP since 2021 is to be active and available in the community. I will be continuing this approach,” said Muys following his April 28th victory. To remain visible and active in Brant, Muys set up a campaign office in St. George last December, a location that he says he will convert to a constituency office now that the campaign is over. He also has plans to be available in Paris but is still working on the details on how that will look. During his last term, Muys held pop-up mobile office hours in each community in the riding on a regular basis and that is something he wants to continue to do to stay connected with the community’s needs. He'll continue to host Coffee Chats with constituents and set up booths at the Paris Fall Fair and St. George Applefest all to keep a pulse on what matters in his new territory. Muys won the popular vote with 52.97 per cent, claiming a total of 34,907 votes. Liberal candidate Chuck Phillips was not far behind with 28,312 votes, accounting for 42.96 per cent of the vote. Peter Werhun, NDP, received 1,598 votes, Anita Payne, Green Party, received 586 votes and Nikita Mahood, PPC, received 501 votes. During advance polls, 26,369 early votes were cast in Flamborough-Glanbrook-Brant North.During this Federal Election, a total of 19.2 million Canadians voted with a whopping 7.3 million voters hit the advance polls on Easter weekend.Voter turnout was at an all time high across the country with 68.7 per cent of eligible voters getting out to the polls. According to Elections Canada, the last time more than 70 per cent of eligible Canadians voted in an election was in 1988 when Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and the Conservatives won a majority government. Muys has plans to get to work and that involves collaboration with all levels of government and across party lines, he says. “My approach has always been to work across party lines and with all levels of government to get things done. To that end, I have already reached out to the new Liberal and Conservative MPs in the region to establish a relationship. As well as re-elected MPs from both parties too. I am in regular contact with MPP Will Bouma and other MPPs provincially. I will continue to foster relationships with County of Brant councillors to work together on common ground for the good of the community,” said Muys. His top concerns are the cost of living and housing (affordability), jobs, the economy and crime. These are the issues that he heard repetitively during his door-to-door campaigning.“There are a number of tools to impact policy and government decisions on these issues. As an Official Opposition, we will have motions, committees, question period and order paper questions to push for change.”Muys said he will also lean on experiences from his first term in office, where he served on the standing committee on transportation, infrastructure and communities. He plans to leverage the insight he gained from that position to bring services to the community.“Infrastructure and road issues usually involve more than one level of government. My approach of working with counterparts from the provincial and municipal levels will help as we work to access federal programs on infrastructure,” he explained, referencing work in his first term to collaborate with counterparts to bring the Flamborough-Glanbrook area to receive its share of Universal Broadband Funds to bring in rural internet.  “With fast-growing communities in north Brant, I will take the same approach of working with counterparts across party lines to ensure we get our fair share. I know MPP Will Bouma has been very effective in ensuring that happens on the provincial level and the councillors work very hard at advocacy through AMO and ROMA. I am committed to ensuring I work alongside them at the federal level.”
