Norfolk County has permanently closed the 4th Concession Road bridge between Hwy 59 and East Quarter Line Road.
As a result, through access on 4th Concession Road is also restricted.
The decision was made to ensure public safety following a routine inspection by Norfolk County staff, which identified significant deterioration. The bridge was recommended for removal due to its condition, with plans to complete the work in 2028.
The bridge is on an unmaintained section of 4th Concession Road, near Walsingham/Port Rowan, that experiences little traffic.
Public access to Backus Woods remains available via access points and parking areas on 3rd Concession Road (South Walsingham), East Quarter Line Road (South Walsingham), Highway 59 South, and Highway 24 West.
