A 30-year-old city man faces weapons charges after police received a report of a person in distress on the morning of Monday, May 25.
Information received during the call indicated the presence of weapons in a residence, resulting in a significant police response in the area of Parkinson Road, Fyfe Avenue, and Pavey Street.
“Out of an abundance of caution, College Avenue Secondary School was placed in a shelter-in-place while officers responded and assessed the situation. The shelter-in-place was later lifted, and there was no ongoing risk to public safety,” said a police press release.
Woodstock Police Service Uniform Patrol, Emergency Response Unit, and Criminal Investigations Branch members conducted an investigation, executed a search warrant at a residence on Fyfe Avenue, and seized multiple weapons, including eight firearms, several knives, and firearm accessories.
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old male from Woodstock has been charged with careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, and breach of firearms regulations – store firearm or restricted weapon.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
