A Whitby man has been charged after a sexual assault investigation in Cobourg, say police.

In September 2026, the Cobourg Police Service said an investigation was launched after a report “that a person had allegedly been touched in a sexual manner without consent on more than one occasion over a period of time.”

As a result of the investigation, on Oct. 9, 2026, investigators said they arrested a 60-year-old man from Whitby without incident.

The accused was charged with sexual assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code, and released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date, reported police.

The name of the accused is not being released to protect the victim’s identity, added police.

Police did also say their investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact CPS at 905-372-6821.

The service is also reminding people that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and that offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.

Sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature, explained police.

Police said they encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident.

No other details were released at the Independent’s deadline.
