By West Northumberland Independent staff
A drug-trafficking probe in Brighton has led to the arrest of two Cobourg residents, says Northumberland OPP.
According to OPP, on Oct. 6, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., officers on patrol in the Telephone Road and County Road 30 area observed a parked vehicle and subsequently spoke with the occupants.
As a result of this interaction, police said they initiated a drug investigation, which led to the driver and passenger being arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the alleged seizure of about 70 grams of suspected cocaine, drug-trafficking paraphernalia and an edged weapon, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said two Cobourg men ages 42 and 38 were each charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, and unauthorized possession of a weapon.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Both of the accused are scheduled to appear in Cobourg court in January 2027, reported OPP.
