The Tillsonburg Thunder are down 3-0 in the Ontario Elite Hockey League’s A Championship series.
The series opened last weekend with home-and-home games that saw Tillsonburg down 2-0 to the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, despite leading much of the second game, and falling in overtime.
Game three, played Saturday night on the road, saw the Thunder fall behind early, trailing 3-0 at the end of the first period. The Tillsonburg crew fell further behind in the second period, trailing by eight before Luke Sinclair, from Danny Attridge and Hunter Monkhouse, put the Thunder on the board.
It was then Attridge’s turn to score in the third, bulging the net early in the third off a feed from Monkhouse and Tye Johnson. The Thunder couldn’t overcome the deficit, falling 11-2, to put the team behind by three games in the series.
The Thunder are hoping some hometown lightning from the crowd will help them storm the Winterhawks. The next game in the series is Saturday, April 4, with a 7:30 p.m. faceoff, when the Thunder hosts. The best-of-seven series will be followed by a road game Sunday in Port Elgin, if necessary, with Tillsonburg hosting the final game on April 11 if the series goes to seven games.
