Thamesford hosts beach volley tourney

The Sand Slam beach volleyball tournament brought lively competition and community spirit to Thamesford on Friday, Aug. 28. Hosted by the Oxford Hype Volleyball Club, the event drew adult co ed teams for an evening of friendly rivalry and fundraising under the late summer sun. The sandy courts buzzed with energy as players dove, spiked, and rallied through multiple rounds, cheered on by spectators who embraced the warm weather with sunglasses and socks — a practical tip shared in advance. Each player contributed a $30 registration fee, with all proceeds supporting Oxford Hype Volleyball Club’s ongoing programs and equipment needs. Coach Janelle coordinated registration and ensured smooth play, while volunteers helped maintain the courts and timing. The event concluded with smiles, sandy high fives, and a shared sense of accomplishment for both athletes and organizers. The Sand Slam not only showcased Thamesford’s love for volleyball but also strengthened local support for Oxford Hype’s mission to grow the sport across Oxford County.
