Motorists traveling along Angling Road should keep an eye on their speed, as Norfolk County council is reducing the limit.

A staff review of the speed limits on the road led to a recommendation to reduce the posted limit from 80 km/h to 70 km/h “from Concession 6 Townsend to approximately 670m south of Norfolk County Road 19,” a report said.

Staff used the Transportation Association of Canada’s guidelines, and compared it to the county’s speed limit policy.

The speed limit will remain 50 km/h within the hamlet area.

County staff had received multiple requests to review the limit for the road, with complaints about speeding, increased traffic and pedestrian concerns since there are no sidewalks on the road.

In its review, staff split the road into three sections: The first looked at County Road 19 to 670 metres south (residential area with plenty of driveways), the next stretch extends to 200 metres south of Lutesville Road (more varied land use with both public and private accesses), and the final stretch went to Concession 6 Townsend (more agricultural, with infrequent accesses but more horizontal and vertical curves).

The TAC guidelines recommended keeping section one at 50 km/h, while reducing the other two sections from 80 km/h to 70 km/h.

Meanwhile, the county’s policy uses a different method, by determining the 85th percentile speed. This method found acceptable ranges of 50 to 60 km/h for section one, and 70 to 80 km/h for sections two and three.

The county will be posting new signage to align with the new speed limits.
