SoupStock fundraiser returns for the fall

The SoupStock fundraiser for Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO) is back just in time for soup season.

The event will be held at Goff Hall on Oct. 21 running from 11:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to taste a variety of soups from local restaurants and vote for their favourite. Competitors will have a chance to win the prized Golden Ladle award.

“It’s a chance to enjoy some great food, discover local businesses and spend time with friends, family and community members, all while supporting DASO,” Samantha Ton, DASO’s administration and communications manager, said to the Echo.

So far, there are six local restaurants and food businesses confirmed to be participating in SoupStock, with more anticipated.

This will be the first time SoupStock is held in the fall. Previously, the annual fundraiser was held in March.

“We thought October felt like the perfect fit for SoupStock. There’s something about the crisp fall weather, changing leaves and cozy fall atmosphere that makes a warm bowl of soup even better,” said Ton. “We wanted to embrace that feeling and give people a fun fall event to look forward to. We’re excited to bring SoupStock into a new season and hopefully make it a fall tradition for our community.”

Proceeds from the SoupStock fundraiser will keep DASO’s programming and services running to support women and children fleeing domestic violence. The organization must raise over $250,000 each year to keep operations running. Any government funding DASO receives covers basic operating costs and staffing.

“The funds raised through events like SoupStock help us provide the things that make a real difference for people accessing our services, from food and basic necessities to transportation, outreach and the many supports that help people move toward safety and stability,” Ton said.

SoupStock guests will have a choice to be part of one of two sittings – one that runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased ahead of the event at Whisk and Roll Bakery, Your Farm Market (cash only), or by sending an email to sam@daso.ca. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $25 the day of the event.
