Proposed Burgessville subdivision gets extension

A planned five-unit project by the Trustees of the First Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Burgessville has received a one-year extension.

The extension comes on the heels of a one-year extension the development received last year. A Township of Norwich staff report said the developers have said they need the extra time to implement changes in the plan requested by Norwich Township staff. It’s led to some modifications of the plan, though the report said the modifications don’t result in any zoning deficiencies.

The changes requested by the township include “an increased radius of the turning circle at the end of Burgess Street and the installation of curb and gutter infrastructure rather than open ditches for the conveyance of stormwater.”

There were 23 conditions placed on the development when it was originally approved. To date, only one has been cleared.

Coun. Shawn Gear questioned the extension request, pointing out they’d already received one.

“How many times can you extend this, where does this go?” he asked.

Planner Amy Hartley said the applicant can continue to ask for extensions, and council can approve extensions of up to three years. There were some extenuating circumstances in this case, she said.

“The previous extension was only a year because they thought they would be done at this point. Things have changed, they’ve had to hire a new engineer, so they kind of had to restart their process,” she said.

The project would see five single-detached lots built and Burgess Street extended.
