Thousands flocked to the 18th Northumberland RibFest and Music Festival over the weekend.

“Overall, it was an incredible weekend,” said Sam Miron, president of the Rotary Club of Cobourg. “Thank you to the community and beyond who came out to support and enjoy the event (and) to our sponsors, our volunteers, the entertainment and all our vendors, including the fabulous five ‘ribbers.’”

Miron added that a special thank you also goes out to emcee York Bell Smith, Lynn Hardy, chair of the Ribfest committee, and the Town of Cobourg for their support.

“The funds raised this weekend will support local community projects,” continued Miron.

In previous years, RibFest has helped local organizations such as Beyond the Blue Box, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland, the Cobourg Lawn Bowling Club, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Community Care Northumberland, and Ed’s House, to name just a few.

In terms of your winners this year, here’s a quick rundown:

Camp 31 BBQ picked up the title for best ribs, pulled pork, barbecue chicken and sauce, while Ben Cochrane was the winner of the people’s choice for ribs prize, and Jack the Ribber picked up the ribber people’s choice title.

As for the lucky draw winner, Trevor Causton won big with $3,000.

This weekend’s three-day affair in Victoria Park lit up the Cobourg waterfront area with all kinds of ribbers, activities and entertainers – and included packed performances for Hotel California – “the original Eagles tribute band” and another special tribute to Canada’s beloved Tragically Hip.
