Parker running again for town council

Two-term councillor Chris Parker is seeking his third term.

Parker filed his papers on Aug. 4 to run again as councillor. The life-long Tillsonburg resident is the production control manager at a local automotive plant. He volunteers as president of Tillsonburg Men’s Alo-Pitch and is Referee In Chief for Tillsonburg and South Oxford Minor Hockey.

Asked why he was running again for council, Parker answered, “I decided that I would like to run again because there are a number of outstanding projects that I would like to see through such as the proposed recreation facility on Mall Road, the implementation of the Recreation Master Plan, and the implementation of some of the Transportation Master Plan.”

Parker’s goals for the coming term are:

• Infrastructure investment and upkeep

• Transportation safety

• Increasing recreational opportunities

“If re-elected, I will continue to approach the role with integrity, honesty, and a commitment to fiscal responsibility,” he said. “I have always been a firm believer that taxpayers’ money should be treated as if it was my own.”

Asked about his proudest achievement with council over the last four years, Parker was upfront in saying decisions are made by council as a whole, and not individual councillors.

“However, being able to work with staff and committees on projects such as the review and update of the Sports Hall of Fame Criteria and the Town Sponsorship/Naming Policy, as well as the work that was done by the Affordable and Attainable Housing committee on the 31 Earle St. Project,” he added as what he found satisfying over the last four years.
