After headlining Rock the Muse last fall, the Out Brief Candles are hosting a CD release party and concert for their debut album.

Stratford’s Out Brief Candles will have a CD release party for their album Every Single Rotten Weed at the Hall on April 18 at 7:15 p.m. Every Rotten Weed is Out Brief Candle’s debut album.

“I'm very excited for it. It's great to throw a show for ourselves. This is actually the first show that we've booked and headlined locally and it's celebrating our record which is now out in the world,” said vocalist Will Gerhard. “It's the first full-length record that I've released and we've released as a band so it's very exciting to share that with everyone.”

Gerhard said he wrote the songs featured on the album over a decade-long period and channelled some of his personal growth through the music. Guitarist Jason Turriff produced the album and Ryan Campbell and Raphe St. Pierre of the rhythm section tie it all together.

"It didn't have an intentional theme, but what emerged over the song-writing process and I realized after we completed the record was that it’s really all about relationships – every angle of relationships from the way we relate to strangers to the relationships that we fall in and out of, to sometimes the relationships that we refuse to enter and keep ourselves lonely,” Gerhard said.

He added that he’s appreciating the positive feedback from the old friends who listened to Every Single Rotten Weed and listening to the album on repeat. Gerhard said he was moved nearly to tears the day the album came out and he was putting promotional material together.

"A full-length record, that’s what I’ve cared about as a musician since I was a young kid listening to Weezer records in high school, so it means a lot to have our own record and I think we did a pretty good job with it,” he said.

Hello Heather, another local band, and Toronto’s Rhynos, featuring Jack Rudy of Stratford, will be opening for Out Brief Candles. Gerhard wanted to bring bands from different generations together and said Stratford’s arts community is a welcoming one.

“There's a lot of opportunities for people to get on stage for the first time and it's not a super big music community, but I think that means there's less opportunity for artists to fall into like cliques or sub communities, so we do all share with each other,” Gerhard said.

Tickets for the Every Single Rotten Weed release party are $20 in advance online via https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-out-brief-candles-debut-album-party-tickets and $25 at the door.

The album can be purchased at Sound Fixation on 4 George St. West and streamed online on any music platform. The Out Brief Candles can be followed on Instagram via @theoutbriefcandles.
