‘Lemon-AID’ stands initiative raises $2,400 for Northumberland Hills Hospital

By West Northumberland Independent staff
There was nothing sour about the efforts of entrepreneurs this summer, whose lemonade stands collectively generated more than $2,000 for Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Earlier this month, the NHH Foundation brought together some of the philanthropists who supported the Northumberland hospital over the summer. “Lemon-AID” stand hosts, along with
their families, gathered at the DePalma Drive hospital for the official wrap-up of the 5th annual Lemon-AID initiative. Lemon-AID stand participants learned their efforts raised $2,400 for the hospital.
Lemon-AID is an annual program hosted by the foundation that invites the young and young-at-heart to host their own lemonade stand to raise money for the hospital. Proceeds from the stands help purchase cozy beanies for patients of the Lions’ and Lioness’ cancer and supportive care clinic, as well as stuffies for kids needing surgery.
“Thank you all for helping patients at NHH,” said Rhonda Cunningham, NHH Foundation CEO. “When you think about how you all came together to raise $2,400 – much of it coming in as loonies and toonies – it is truly impressive.
“I hope you know how much this means to patients at our hospital,” Cunningham told participants.
The foundation said the community’s support for this initiative was on clear display with eight Lemon-AID stands hosted over the season.
Lemon-AID was sponsored for the fifth year in a row by Davis’ Your Independent Grocer in Port Hope, with participants receiving kits that included gift cards to the store to kick-start their stands. Hosts planned and executed their individual stands on a date of their choice and then donated the proceeds to NHH Foundation.
