John Boy the Royal Palm Turkey travelled all the way from Cambridge, P.E.I. to be part of the Ontario Poultry Breeders Show last month.

He was just one of 16 turkeys that his owner Jodi Van Iderstine of Sanctuary Homestead brought with her.

“I came all this way as it is nice to meet new people and learn from different judges and there are many here that I have not met yet in my travels.”

Seven years ago, she saw a picture of the royal palm turkeys and now has quite a flock.

“Turkeys have incredible personalities,” says Van Iderstine.

”John Boy is very affectionate and smart and excellent with the baby poults. He has a 100-acre woods to forage for his own food if he wants and since he is so well kept he will live from five to 10 years.”

John Boy loves to have his picture taken as he sits on Jodi’s walker. Welcome to West Niagara!
