Deb Lord, Stewart Grant and Dan Rolph met last Wednesday at South Huron Recreation Centre as they began distributing the first copies of the re-launched Exeter Examiner.
After buying the St. Marys Independent in 2014, Grant launched the original Exeter Examiner in 2015 before closing it in 2016. Grant renewed his expansion efforts in 2020 with the purchase of the Tavistock Gazette, followed by the launch of several new publications in attempt to fill gaps in news coverage as media conglomerates Metroland and Postmedia scaled back their small-town operations.
“The last 10 years have brought many changes to the newspaper industry, but one thing that hasn’t changed is people’s desire for local news and information,” said Grant.
Lord, who spent much of her career with the Exeter Times Advocate, is thrilled to be back in the business as part of the new team.
“I have been positively overwhelmed with the community stopping me on the street or phoning me about how much they love the new Exeter Examiner,” she said.
Grant Haven Media now has nine community newspapers and three farm publications. Here in St. Marys, the current editions of all newspapers are available for pickup at the St. Marys Independent office at 36 Water St. S or online at www.granthaven.com.
