Goderich Ringette celebrates community with annual Ringette Day

By: Megan Frayne
Goderich Ringette is getting ready for one of the biggest weekends on its calendar, and the association is inviting the entire community to come out and celebrate.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 23, with the annual Kids Halloween Dance at the GDCI gym. This much-anticipated event has become a favourite among local families, thanks in large part to the incredible volunteers who transform the gym into a fun and festive Halloween celebration.
With costumes, dancing, snacks, pizza and music from DJ Dan, the Halloween Dance is a great way for local kids to kick off the weekend. Tickets are $10 per child, with parents admitted free. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at 360 Bikes n Boards or in the lobby of the arena on Thursday evenings in October.
Then, on Saturday, October 24, the celebration moves to the arena for Goderich Ringette Day.
Nine games will take place throughout the day, beginning at 9 a.m. and running until approximately 7 p.m. Every Goderich Ringette team will take to the ice, along with a special 18+ game. It is a great opportunity for anyone who has never watched ringette to come out, grab a seat in the stands and see the sport in action.
But Ringette Day is about much more than the games.
The arena will be filled with activities and opportunities for the community to get involved. Visitors can stop by the bake sale for some homemade treats, test their aim at Fling-a-Ring, check out the raffle baskets created by the teams, browse Goderich Ringette swag and enjoy activities for kids.
An online 50/50 draw will also give supporters a chance to take home a prize while supporting the association. And no trip to the arena would be complete without a stop at Loca Rolla.
Some of the activities and purchases at the arena will be cash only, so visitors are encouraged to come prepared.
For Goderich Ringette, the day is an opportunity to celebrate an organization that has been part of the Goderich community for more than 40 years.
Over those four decades, countless local children and families have been introduced to ringette through the association. Players have learned new skills, competed across the province, made lifelong friendships and grown up surrounded by teammates, coaches and volunteers who have helped make their ringette experience special.
The association has also developed a strong reputation within the ringette community across Ontario, and its teams are proud to represent Goderich wherever they travel.
Ringette Day is a chance to showcase that community spirit right here at home.
The association is especially excited to welcome back former players and families who have been part of Goderich Ringette over the years.
Alumni returning to the arena is always a special part of the day, providing an opportunity to reconnect with old teammates, coaches and friends while seeing the next generation of players take the ice.
Behind the scenes, Ringette Day is made possible by a tremendous group of volunteers. From organizing the games and decorating for the Halloween Dance to preparing raffle baskets, running activities, working the bake sale and helping throughout the day, there are many people who contribute their time to make these events happen.
What makes Ringette Day special is the opportunity to bring the community together. For one day, the arena becomes a place to celebrate the athletes, the families, the volunteers and the many people who have helped make Goderich Ringette a part of this community for more than 40 years.
The association is proud of its roots in Goderich and excited to share that pride with the community that has supported it for generations.
With a full day of ringette, activities, prizes and plenty of community spirit, Ringette Day is a celebration of where Goderich Ringette has been, where it is today and the future of the sport in our community.
Local businesses and community organizations interested in sponsorship opportunities for Goderich Ringette are invited to contact president@goderichringette.ca.
Goderich Ringette would love to see you at the arena on Saturday, October 24. Come out and celebrate more than 40 years of ringette in Goderich.
