Giant Tiger gives back for 65th birthday with more than $1K raised for Rotary Hospice

Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth received $1,005.75 in donations from Giant Tiger’s Stratford location, as a way to celebrate the chain’s 65th birthday.

Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth is grateful for the support of the Giant Tiger Stratford location team, most recently with a monetary donation.

The hospice thanked Giant Tiger Stratford on their Facebook page on June 18 for Thank You Thursday. To celebrate Giant Tiger’s 65th birthday, the Stratford location collected donations on May 2 and 3 for Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth.

“When they chose to celebrate Giant Tiger's 65th birthday by collecting donations for Rotary Hospice, we were really honoured,” said Pippa Elliott, communications and marketing coordinator for Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth. “It's really nice that they thought of us and wanted to support us and include us in their celebrations."

Giant Tiger Stratford raised $1,005.75 for Rotary Hospice. Volunteers and staff from the hospice were serving a barbecue during the donation weekend in the Giant Tiger parking lot.

“It was also a lovely opportunity for our staff and volunteers to connect directly with the community to be visible to them and help spread the message that hospice care is available at no cost to anyone who needs it in the community,” Elliott said. “We have a message that we want to get out there that we're here for everyone and a lot of people still don't know that there's a hospice in the community." 

Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth must raise $1 million each year to cover operating costs. The organization receives 50 per cent of funding from the Ministry of Health to cover nursing care, and the rest of the expenses are covered by fundraising.

"Things like keeping the lights on, paying for staff salaries, Wi-Fi, food in the kitchen, all of those things that make the hospice a home and make it comfortable and welcoming for people to be there,” Elliott said.

Giant Tiger Stratford also provided the supplies for the barbecue lunch offered to Hike for Hospice participants in 2025 and 2026

"By them providing those supplies for us, it meant that all the money that was raised for Hike for Hospice could directly support hospice care,” Elliott said.

Elliott is grateful for the support from Giant Tiger Stratford and encourages those who support the hospice to support the store on 477 Huron St.

"It's a really nice and welcoming store and anytime local businesses support us we always ask people to support them; support those who support us,” she said.
