A Hickson-area couple has lost their home after a fire last week at Sunpark Hidden Valley estates, just off Highway 59.
“The East Zorra-Tavistock Fire Department responded to a structure fire at approximately 5 p.m. on Jan. 30. Both Hickson and Innerkip stations responded with assistance from Tavistock’s tanker,” said EZT Fire Chief Scott Alexander.
“Upon arrival, the mobile home was fully engulfed leading to serious damage to the trailer. There was no one home at the time, and there were no injuries. The fire is believed to have started near the furnace room, and no dollar value has been determined at this time,” he added.
A gofundme page has been started by Darryl Donaghey, a friend of the couple.
“Friends and neighbours in our small little community lost their home and all their belongings, including family pets in a fire this evening. This young family has endured so much in their lives already, and it's just terrible to witness. They will need to rebuild, and the folks in our small community are banding together to do everything possible to help. They will need much financial help,” said the page.
“This all just happened mere hours ago so am not sure all what to say here too be honest. These are superb people who would help anyone they could, my heart breaks for them. So, I ask anyone who is able to spare...what ever amount to do so, and let's get these folks back into a home.”
As of press time, about $4,800 of the $30,000 goal had been raised.
