The annual Royal Canadian Legion Poster and Literacy Contest, organized locally by Branch 125 in Delhi, is looking for entries.
“Kids from Kindergarten right up to Grade 12 can participate,” said Trudy Ingraham, Youth and Education Chair. “They can make colour posters or black-and-white – it’s a way for kids to be recognized for their artwork. Or they can write a poem or essay for the literacy part of it.”
Students can also enter a video – contact Ingraham (email Trudy.Ingraham@hotmail.ca) for more information.
Students in Delhi-area schools are eligible, as well as home-schooled students.
“I want to make sure home-school students are aware of it as well,” Ingraham noted. “They just need to reach out to me – we will need a permission form.”
Art will be collected Nov. 6 to be displayed in the Legion, 249 Main Street, for Remembrance Day, before it’s sent to the next level.
PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION
Locally, the January 10th public speaking competition is open to students in different age categories in the Delhi area.
“It’s no longer part of the school curriculum, but we are still asking for people to register for the Legion public speaking competition by about mid-December. Again, reach out to me.”
Anyone from Kindergarten to Grade 12 can register. Winners are eligible to advance to higher levels, all the way up to provincial and Dominion.
“There is prize money at every single level,” Ingraham noted.
