Creative young entrepreneur is hooked on crocheting

When eleven-year-old Bryn Finck joined the crochet club with some friends during the past school year and created her first granny square in February, she was hooked.

"My friend Hannah crochets, and she inspired me," Finck said. "I kinda wanted to do crochet as well. I picked up a lot from YouTube."

The industrious young lady attends Westfield Public School, and she'll be going into Grade 7 in September. She particularly enjoys math and gym.

"There's a lot of math in crochet," Finck said. "You have to count your stitches, and size as well. It takes a lot of patience."

"Once she figured out the granny square, she took off," Bryn's mom, Devon Finck said. "She made shirts, blankets, sweaters, hats, headbands, then stuffies. It was a really quick progression. She's a very driven person."

During the town-wide garage sale, she set up a booth at her aunt’s house and sold out of everything. She also had a booth at Turtlefest and the young entrepreneur has been expanding her business since then.

With support and assistance from her parents (and some creative use of AI) she now has a charming business card and an Instagram account: Creative Loops by Bryn. She accepts orders by direct message on the platform and by email (CreativeLoopsbyBryn@gmail.com).

"I like to make something different each time," Finck said. "I like getting custom orders because I can make something the person wants. I love getting creative, it's better than staying inside the lines."

Her adorable crochet animals are handmade with love. Their personalities evolve as she creates them, and they come with adoption cards with their name, likes, dislikes, favorite food, season, activities, and disposition. She often adds accessories from other patterns, and she chooses her materials to give them a unique character.

"I can also make custom characters from TV shows, and mascots," Finck said. "My brother is going to Laurier in the fall, and I surprised him with a Laurier Hawk."

Bryn is off to summer camp for some nature inspiration, but she's a true entrepreneur, already thinking about what she could make for baby shower, winter, and Valentine’s Day themes.
