Prefer sledding? Designated tobogganing hills open across the county
Residents across the County of Brant can lace up their skates as several outdoor ice rinks are officially open for the winter season.
The rinks, maintained by community groups and volunteers, offer free outdoor skating and are a popular seasonal gathering spot for families, friends and recreational skaters.
This season’s outdoor rinks are located at:
Paris Optimist Park, 3 Catherine St., Paris
Syl Apps Community Centre, 51 William St., Paris
Sunny Hill Park, 87 Sunnyside Dr., St. George
Mt. Pleasant Park, 555 Burtch Rd., Mt. Pleasant
County officials extended thanks to the local service clubs and volunteers who prepare and maintain the rinks each winter, noting the significant time and effort required to keep ice safe and usable throughout the season.
Support for the rinks comes from the Paris Firefighters Club, Mount Pleasant Optimists, St. George Lions Club, along with numerous community volunteers.
For those who prefer tobogganing, especially with the abundance of snow this winter, the County of Brant also permits sledding at designated locations across the community.
Tobogganing is allowed in the following areas:
Bemrose Park, 56 Whitlaw Way, Paris (north side of hill only)
Green Lane Sports Complex, 8 Green Lane, Paris
Grandville Park, 146 Grandville Circle, Paris
King William Park, 52 King William St., St. George (east of pathway in the park)
Residents are reminded that both skating and tobogganing areas are weather-dependent, and conditions can change quickly. The county encourages residents to follow posted signage and use all facilities at their own discretion.
Outdoor winter amenities typically remain open as long as conditions allow throughout the season. Visit brant.ca/WinterActivities for updates.
