Cobourg announces winners of voting sticker contest

By West Northumberland Independent staff
As the Town of Cobourg announces the winners of its voting-related sticker contest, it is encouraging youth to write an essay about how they see the future of their town.
Cobourg’s legislative services division held the sticker design contest for Cobourg’s youth in the spirit of the upcoming 2026 municipal and school board election. The winners are Desi and Walter, who came out on top in their respective age categories.
Voting in Cobourg is occurring online. Printed stickers will be available at the town’s voter help centres or residents may pick one up from the clerk’s office at Victoria Hall, which is located at 55 King St. W., after casting their internet ballot.
Residents are invited to view all the submitted artwork in an exhibition in the Art Gallery of Northumberland located at Victoria Hall, in the west wing on the third floor, from now until voting winds down on Monday, Oct. 26.
Cobourg is also encouraging youth to share their ideas for the future through the “My Ideal Town” essay contest. This contest invites students 17 years old and younger to submit a creative 350-word essay describing their vision for an ideal town.
“Youth are encouraged to imagine what programs, services and community features they would like to see in the future,” explained the town, in a recent release.
Essay contest submissions are due by Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. and must include the full name of the youth submitting the essay, his or her age and/or grade, a parent or guardian’s name, and a parent or guardian’s email address or phone number.
Essays may be submitted by email to cobourgvotes@cobourg.ca or by mail to the office of the municipal clerk at 55 King St. W., Cobourg, ON, K9A 2M2.
After the submission deadline, town staff will compile all entries and present them to Cobourg’s newly-elected council for the 2026-30 term. One youth will be selected to read their essay at the inaugural meeting of council and share his or her vision for an ideal town with council and the community. All youth who submit an essay will be invited to attend the inaugural council meeting, meet members of council, and stay for the reception that follows.
