Brook Road North in Cobourg closing for CN rail crossing upgrades

By West Northumberland Independent staff
Canadian National Railway (CN) work to tackle upgrades at the Brook Road North rail crossing in Cobourg will mean a road closure starting Sept. 13, says Northumberland County.
According to Northumberland County, Brook Road North (County Road 20) will be fully closed between Elgin Street East and King Street from Sept. 13 to 18 to accommodate the work.
“The road is currently open to traffic with alternating lane restrictions in place,” noted county staff.
However, a full closure will be required to safely complete upcoming rail crossing work, added officials.
During the closure, staff said detours will be in place for passenger vehicles and trucks, with separate designated routes for each. Motorists are being asked to follow posted detour signage and allot additional time when travelling through the area.
“Notifications have been made to emergency services, transit and school transportation providers along Brook Road North in advance of the closure.”
Local access will be maintained where possible, with access restrictions and traffic control measures in place around the active construction area, added the county.
