December brought a welcome surprise for Jeffrey Honey of Kitchener, the latest winner in the Wilmot Heritage Fire Brigade’s monthly 50/50 draw, based in Baden.
Honey received a cheque for $587.50 after his ticket number was selected in the volunteer organization’s December draw. The prize was presented by brigade president Peter Gingerich at the brigade’s Baden location.
Like many winners, Honey said he was pleasantly surprised when he received the call. He added supporting community organizations is something he values, especially those dedicated to preserving local history, and said he plans to continue purchasing tickets in future draws.
Funds raised through the monthly 50/50 help support the work of the Wilmot Heritage Fire Brigade Museum, including the preservation and restoration of antique fire trucks, equipment and other firefighting artifacts from across the region.
Gingerich thanked all ticket buyers for their continued support, noting the success of the draw plays an important role in maintaining the museum and its growing collection. He also encouraged anyone with an interest in local history to consider getting involved with the brigade, pointing out that no firefighting background is required.
