The Elgin Street Sport Park rehabilitation project in Cramahe is getting a $154,600-provincial boost.

Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini, Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) and Township of Cramahe officials gathered on Friday, Oct. 30 to celebrate the capital grant funnelling through the OTF in support of Phase 1 for the project.

“Our government is proud to invest in the infrastructure that keeps our communities strong,” said Piccini. “By supporting the rehabilitation of recreational facilities like Elgin Street Sport Park, we’re helping ensure families and residents of all ages can stay active and connected in their own communities.”

As part of this project, improvements include resurfacing the tennis and basketball courts, repairing and painting the ball hockey rink, replacing basketball nets and hardware, upgrading fencing where needed, and installing new lighting, according to a release from Piccini’s office.

The project was reportedly developed by Township of Cramahe staff and a volunteer parks and recreation committee with the support of council.

“Our community will greatly benefit from this OTF grant,” said outgoing Mayor Mandy Martin. “It ensures these vital recreational spaces will remain accessible for all through sport, play and community events.”

A second phase – estimated at $100,000 – is planned for the future, noted officials.

Matthew Dunleavy, chair of the parks and recreation committee, also called the OTF investment “great news” for the community.

The OTF is an agency of the Ontario government. For the 2025-26 year, investments reached nearly $107 million, translating to help for 746 community projects.
