From a youth accused of threatening other youth and then police before allegedly assaulting an officer to impaired driving incidents, a harassment investigation and more, here is your latest Cobourg police rundown.
HARASSMENT INVESTIGATION:
A 60-year-old Cobourg man has been charged after a criminal harassment investigation.
On Aug. 25, police said they received a report that an employee of a business had been subjected to repeated unwanted conduct over several days while travelling to and from work and while at their workplace.
The individual involved had previously been trespassed from the business but allegedly continued to attend, said police.
As a result of the investigation, officers reported arresting a 60-year-old Cobourg man on Aug. 27. Police said the accused was subsequently charged with criminal harassment and failure to comply with a probation order.
The accused was initially held in custody pending a bail hearing.
CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES INCIDENTS:
Three people have been charged in separate incidents involving controlled substances and breaches of court-ordered conditions, according to police.
On Aug. 26, police said while conducting a compliance check they learned an individual was in breach of a probation order. As a result, on Aug. 27, officers said they arrested a 33-year-old Port Hope woman after observing her during patrol efforts.
During the arrest, officers allege they found a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
The accused was charged with failure to comply with undertaking and possession of a schedule I substance and released on an undertaking with a future court date, reported police.
Meanwhile, police said in a separate incident on Aug. 27, at about 2:10 a.m., officers on general patrol observed an individual in the vestibule of a business in the George and King streets area.
During an interaction, officers alleged they observed drug paraphernalia in plain view.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 32-year-old Cobourg man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and released on a provincial offences notice under the Trespass to Property Act.
On Aug. 29, at about 8:30 a.m., officers on patrol said they observed an individual in possession of a small quantity of suspected fentanyl in the area of King Street and Spring Street.
As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule I substance and three counts of failure to comply with probation, reported police, adding the accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released by the courts.
YOUTH ACCUSED OF THREATS, ASSAULTING POLICE:
A 16-year-old is facing serious charges after a police probe into reported online threats.
According to police, on Aug. 27, police received a report that threats had allegedly been made during an online interaction between youths. As a result of the investigation, a youth was arrested on Aug. 28, added police.
Following the arrest, police allege the youth uttered threats toward an officer and assaulted police.
As a result of the investigation, police said the 16-year-old youth was charged with two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer, and failing to comply with sentence.
The accused was initially held in custody pending a bail hearing, reported police.
IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES:
Police said they charged two individuals with impaired driving in separate incidents over the weekend.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 30, officers conducting traffic enforcement reported observing a vehicle being operated without headlights and initiated a traffic stop.
During the investigation, police allege they observed signs of impairment by alcohol.
As a result, police said the driver – a 59-year-old Quebec woman – was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
In another incident on Aug. 31, at about 2:30 a.m., police said they responded to a report of a person sleeping inside a parked vehicle in the area of DePalma Drive and Strathy Road.
As a result of the investigation, police said a Roseneath man was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
None of the charges in the above unrelated incidents have been proven in court.
The Cobourg Police Service continues to remind motorists that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable deaths on Ontario roadways.
Police are calling on all motorists to make better choices before getting behind the wheel, such as arranging safe ride homes in advance, tapping a designated driver or simply staying put for the night.
Police also continue to call on citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
