Your Cobourg election guide: What you need to know about the voters’ list, instruction letters, help centres

If you’re wondering if you’re on the voters’ list, about voter instruction letters or in-person voter help centres, here’s the latest for Cobourg.
The town’s legislative services division has announced its list of all persons entitled to be electors for the upcoming Oct. 26 election has been prepared by the mu nicipal clerk’s office.
Town staff are recommending people check they are on the voters’ list and ensure names and relevant information are correct.
Staff said people simply have to click on the “check you are on the voters’ list” button and fill in the form to confirm, add or update information. Alternatively, residents can contact the legislative and clerk’s office at Victoria Hall in-person during regular office hours, and on election day from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Calling the office at 905-372-4301 ext. 9520 or emailing cobourgvotes@cobourg.ca
is another option.
However, staff have noted electors will need photo proof of identity and residence.
The town also has a new voter information centre for this election. This will mean in addition to being available at the clerk’s office starting Sept. 15, election staff will be available every Tuesday and Thursday leading up to election day at the Cobourg Public Library to answer resident questions and help with updating the voters’ list, explained staff.
No appointments are needed – residents can drop-in to meet with staff on Tuesdays – Sept. 15, 22, and 29 and Oct. 6 and 13 – from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Thursdays – Sept. 17 and 24 and Oct. 1, 8 and 25 – the hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As for voter instruction letters, staff noted they should start arriving in the mail the week of Oct. 5. These letters contain information such as a personal identification number (PIN) and the web address to access the voting portal, as well as other important election-related details.
However, while Cobourg is using Internet voting for the 2026 municipal and school board election, there will be in-person voter help centres hosted during the voting period, which opens Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. and goes until Oct. 26 at 8 p.m.
These centres will offer residents a chance to use a secure voting kiosk “with staff support available every step of the way.”
People will need to bring their voter instruction letters, noted officials, adding for those who don’t receive letters by Oct. 16, they’re asked to visit Victoria Hall or a help centre with photo identification that includes proof of address to register and get a PIN.
Voter help centre locations will include the Old Bailey Courtroom at Victoria Hall on Oct. 16 and Oct. 19 to 25 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Oct. 26/election day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The library will serve as another location at 200 Ontario St. on Oct. 19 to 23 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on election day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Finally, the town is also using the Cobourg Community Centre as a help centre from Oct. 19 to 22 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on election day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
