The streets of Tavistock were filled with ghosts, goblins, superheroes and plenty of other colourful characters Saturday afternoon as local children headed out for some Halloween fun.

With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, many younger trick-or-treaters got an early start, making their way from house to house with bags and buckets ready to be filled with candy.

Parents accompanied their little ones through neighbourhood streets, smiling and laughing as the children showed off their costumes and eagerly collected treats from friends and neighbours.

Mother Nature also co-operated, providing clear skies, sunshine and comfortable weather for the annual Halloween tradition.

The beautiful afternoon made it that much more enjoyable for families to spend time outdoors, visiting neighbours and taking in the many creative costumes and decorations throughout the community.

Adding to the excitement was the return to standard time overnight, with clocks turning back one hour early Sunday morning.

For many youngsters, that meant an extra hour of sleep after a busy evening of trick-or-treating, followed by plenty of time Sunday morning to sort through their collection of Halloween goodies.

The Halloween spirit wasn't limited to the streets of Tavistock, either.

Residents and staff at The Maples Home for Seniors also got into the festivities, dressing up in costumes and enjoying a special visit from two friendly cocker spaniels.

From the youngest trick-or-treaters to seniors enjoying the celebrations, Halloween once again brought plenty of smiles, laughter and community spirit to Tavistock.
