The Woodstock Police Service is proud to congratulate Sgt. Akeem Guy on receiving the Rising Star Award at the A.B.L.E. Awards.
“With a policing career spanning two countries, Sgt. Guy's journey reflects dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to professional excellence,” said a WPS social media post.
The Rising Star Award is one of the honours presented at the annual A.B.L.E. (Association of Black Law Enforcers) Scholarship and Awards Gala.
It recognizes an individual with less than 10 years of work experience who has demonstrated excellence in their field and consistently exemplifies professionalism, dedication and teamwork. The award recognizes emerging talent and achievement within the law enforcement community.
Beginning his career with the Jamaica Constabulary Force in 2010, Sgt. Guy distinguished himself through investigative achievements, leadership, and academic excellence. His accomplishments earned him a scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Technology, Jamaica, and he went on to become one of the youngest members to attain the rank of Sergeant.
“Since joining the Woodstock Police Service in 2021, Sgt. Guy has continued to build on that experience, earning multiple commendations for his investigative work, developing specialized expertise in collision reconstruction, and demonstrating leadership through mentorship and community engagement. His dedication and achievements led to his promotion to Sergeant in 2026,” added the social media post.
“From Jamaica to Canada, Sgt. Guy's career exemplifies a commitment to public safety, continuous learning, and service to the community.”
The awards program was established in 2023 and also includes the Rising Star, Community Leadership, Program Innovation and President’s Award.
The 34th annual A.B.L.E. Scholarship and Awards Gala was held Oct. 24, at RBC Place in London in partnership with the London Police Service.
