Police lay charges following collision

Two city people have been charged after a crash at the intersection of Norwich Avenue and Montclair Drive.

Police responded to the intersection after receiving a report of a vehicle collision with a roadside utility box on the morning of Oct. 1.

During the initial investigation, an occupant told officers that he had been driving the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the pair had switched seats and that the actual driver held a G1 licence and was not accompanied by a qualified driver, something required under Ontario’s graduated licensing conditions.

A 20-year-old male was charged with obstructing a peace officer and permitting a novice driver to drive in contravention of a condition or restriction. A 24-year-old female was charged with obstructing a peace officer and being a G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver.

Both accused were arrested and later released on undertakings with conditions.

Police remind motorists that graduated licensing restrictions are in place to help ensure novice drivers gain experience safely. Providing false or misleading information to police during an investigation may also result in criminal charges.

Driver flees attempted traffic stop

Police have charged a 31-year-old man following an investigation into a vehicle that fled from police during an attempted traffic stop.

An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle, which fled from the officer on Oct. 2. For public safety reasons, the officer halted the pursuit.

The involved vehicle was located in a residential area. Officers also identified a suspect and determined he had left the vehicle and continued on foot. The suspect was located at a business on Dundas Street and placed under arrest.

Police said the accused was also prohibited from operating a motor vehicle and was allegedly in breach of conditions of an existing release order.

A 31-year-old Etobicoke male has been charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, operation while prohibited, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the accused was held for a bail hearing.

Multiple charges laid after motorcycle collision

Police laid multiple charges following a collision involving a motorcycle on Oct. 2.

Police responded to the crash at the intersection of Fairway Road and Three Wood Drive.

The investigation determined that a vehicle and a motorcycle had collided and the bike driver left the scene on foot.

An investigation determined the licence plate attached to the motorcycle was not authorized for the vehicle. Officers attended a nearby residence, where they located the driver.

A 26-year-old Woodstock male has been charged with failing to remain, using an unauthorized plate, driving a motor vehicle without a licence, and operating a vehicle without insurance.

Impaired charge laid during traffic stop

A 20-year-old Tillsonburg man has been charged with impaired driving offences.

An officer observed a vehicle being driven inconsistently in the area of Dundas Street and Wilson Street on Oct. 3. Police conducted a traffic stop, and a roadside breath test was administered, which registered a fail.

The driver was arrested, and further breath testing resulted in readings nearly three times the legal limit. He was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs and operating while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80-plus.
