It may still be summer, but organizers of the 173rd Wellesley Fall Fair are already putting the finishing touches on another celebration of agriculture, community and family fun.

Hosted by the Wellesley-North Easthope Agricultural Society, this year's fair takes place Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Bill Gies Recreation Complex under the theme "Field to Feast."

In addition to the fair itself, organizers are planning several fundraising and community events leading up to the weekend.

The society's annual quilt raffle returns with three prizes, including a queen-size quilt, a lap quilt and a table runner. Tickets are available in advance.

The popular seniors' tea will also return this year. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased by Aug. 14.

New this year is the fair's first online 50/50 raffle. The early-bird prize is a $400 Lens Mills gift card, while the grand prize will be 50 per cent of the total funds raised. Organizers are hoping to award a substantial cash prize while supporting future fair activities.

As always, the fair itself will offer a full schedule of agricultural competitions, family entertainment and activities for all ages.

Visitors can look forward to a horse show, a sheep demonstration, the return of the 4-H cattle show, inflatable attractions, food trucks, zucchini races, children's pedal-car races, the popular baby show and a pet and stuffy show.

Organizers say those attractions are just part of the weekend's lineup, with additional exhibits, competitions and entertainment planned throughout the two-day event.

The Wellesley Fall Fair continues to celebrate the area's rich agricultural heritage while providing an opportunity for families and friends to come together and enjoy one of the community's longest-running traditions.
