Waterford town wide yard sale a huge success

It seems there are a lot – and I mean a LOT – of people who love bargain hunting so when Waterford advertised their June 6th Annual Town Wide Yard Sale it didn’t take long for people to jump on the band wagon.

Mother Nature did her part and provided a beautiful sunny day... a bit windy but sunny none the less. People got an early start and it was evident in the cars that lined the streets by 7 a.m. But I guess that’s all a part of the fun and excitement of the day.

After finding a place to park I was off to visit as many locations as possible. To make it easier for those diehard yard sale ‘junkies,’ a list of participants was posted to Facebook and updated as best they could. There were definitely enough addresses to keep someone busy for quite a few hours!

Young and old alike had their tables set up and their ‘goodies’ on display just hoping to make a few sales. Everyone was more than happy to help you out and some even offered a few ‘bargains.’ The enthusiasm of the kids was refreshing to see. More than willing to help you, they hoped to make a bit of spending money and their sales pitches were hard to resist!

One participant on Harrison Street, has been doing a yard sale for a few years now and she donates her proceeds to the Waterford United Church Christmas Program.

“I have a lot of help from my friends!” said Pat. “I’m always happy with the sales… people are very generous. It’s a win-win for me!”

While yard sales are not everyone’s cup of tea, they are certainly an attraction for the bargain hunters. I have to admit I went away empty handed but the outing was so much fun. I got to meet some very friendly people so I felt like I came out on the positive side. 

Everyone I spoke to was happy with the crowds and appreciative of the organizers of the event. Add to that a great day weather-wise, mixed with the hundreds of shoppers who turned out and 'supported' the vendors while making a good deal or two, and all was perfect.

A big thanks would have to go to those who plan and organize this each year. Once again it was a hit! Looking forward to next year’s event!
