Waterford Legion Branch 123 raises banner

Waterford Legion Branch 123 and its members played host to a full house of guests on July 18th.
They were all there to celebrate not only 100 years - and going strong - but the long-standing
work and dedication of its members and the community support as well.
They were also proud to unveil a new banner/sign and Legion logo, and to honour the building. Longtime Waterford Legion member and President Gord Barnett said the turnout was amazing with at least 150 at the event, including Ward 7 Councillor Kim Huffman. Eleven new members were sworn in during the event as well.
The ‘barbecuers’ were kept busy feeding the crowd. After a burger or two they were treated to some delicious cake.
Also on the agenda was a group of North Shore Highlanders from Port Dover. It was their third Legion event that weekend but they were more than happy to be in Waterford.
The new banner to honour the building, the Legion Centennial, and new Legion logo were a very important part of the celebration - 100 years strong and still growing!
“All in all, it was a good day and good event,” said 1st Vice-President Brad Walker. “No one needed to leave hungry! A good spread, as always, with plenty of food.”
There was also a regalia table where one could purchase Legion shirts or hats.
The Waterford Legion has always been there to support local community events and it easy to see the community appreciates all of their support and work throughout Waterford by the numbers in attendance.

“The Branch is celebrating 98 years this year with plans in the works for our 100th in 2028,”
said Barnett, noting they are always happy to welcome new members.
